Faculty-Capstone Coordinator of the Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program

Serves in a dual role as primary capstone coordinator and core faculty member for the entry level occupational therapy doctorate program. Coordinates the capstone functions and operationalizes program compliance with the university and Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).


Essential Job Functions

  • Demonstrates specialized knowledge and maintains expertise in the theory, skills, and pedagogy of the applicable discipline or profession
  • Uses strategies and skills necessary to support student learning and prepares and delivers current and relevant course material in an understandable and motivating manner
  • Continually assesses course objectives and instructional methods to improve teaching and learning
  • Uses formative and summative assessments of student learning within assigned courses to inform instruction and improve student attainment of course objectives and program outcomes
  • Establishes a student and advisor relationship that provides guidance with regard to program choices and career possibilities and supports student educational growth through guided decision making
  • Supports the university's outcomes initiatives by working to refine and revise course assignments and evaluation tools and leading or participating in data analysis discussions to make program and course improvements
  • Facilitates development and revision of programs and courses, assuring alignment within the program description and outcomes, course objectives and content, as well as university curriculum standards
  • Attends commencement, convocation, faculty meetings, department meetings, committee meetings, professional development programs, and other university events, as applicable
  • Supports student enrollment and retention by participating in university events, advising student clubs and organizations, and assisting with admissions activities
  • Adheres to and fulfills the responsibilities of all faculty members as outlined in the faculty manual
  • Plans and coordinates professional community outreach to establish appropriate capstone mentors for Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) students
  • Develops and maintains relationships with new and existing capstone community agency sites consistent with the university and program mission
  • Manages contract development for the entry level OTD capstone project sites
  • Develops and sustains scheduling for the OTD capstone project experiences for the entry level OTD students
  • Advises OTD students regarding their capstone project choice and coordinates with faculty and field mentors
  • Maintains program compliance with standards set for in the ACOTE capstone education requirements
  • Monitors the departmental budget
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Supervises and manages student employees, as necessary, to enhance their academic and professional development
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a doctorate degree in occupational therapy or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution (An entry-level, professional degree in occupational therapy and earned doctorate degree in a related field of study is acceptable.)
  • Experience working in clinical or academic fieldwork, community and population level, programming or in other related work
  • NBCOT certification
  • Active RI Occupational Therapy license or ability to obtain such license upon hire
