The Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences provides leadership and overall direction for the programs offered by the college as well as the general education curriculum of the university in support of the university’s strategic plan. The major responsibilities emphasize academic excellence, retention and graduation rates, external relationships that advance the goals of the college, and the development and execution of a college plan. The dean oversees administrative, operational and budgetary affairs, directs the academic programs, and fosters an environment of continuous improvement, innovation and growth.


Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees the academic, fiscal and physical environments in which academic programs are delivered
  • Collaborates with university stakeholders to facilitate efficient and effective academic planning, delivery and assessment of programs
  • Promotes and supports positive and collegial relationships among faculty, staff and students
  • Develops strategic partnerships and acts as an ambassador for community, admissions and other university-based initiatives
  • Supervises, evaluates and supports academic units and individual faculty to support excellence in instruction, scholarly and creative productivity, and university service
  • Conducts faculty recruitment and assessment and fosters faculty development
  • Develops and implements plans for the college in alignment with the university’s strategic plan
  • Provides academic oversight and performance of functional units within the college to achieve goals
  • Oversees compliance with accreditation standards and other applicable regulations
  • Secures external gifts and grants in conjunction with the Office of the Chancellor and Resource Development
  • Leads the development of academic programs and other initiatives for the college
  • Develops and maintains the college budget
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Significant amount of experience working in higher education or other related experience
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication competencies
  • Impeccable integrity, professionalism, and sound judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and professions to enhance learning throughout the university
  • A history of innovative and effective leadership in a consultative and collaborative academic environment
