Associate Director of Transportation

Summary

Oversees the daily operations of the campus transportation system including the management of drivers and staff

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages all driver and dispatcher operations
  • Manages quality assurance of all transportation services such as maintaining cleanliness of the interior of vehicles, coordinating exterior cleaning, investigating inquiries and concerns related to student transportation
  • Researches and resolves service-related concerns
  • Facilitates, manages and updates the bus schedule, as necessary
  • Maintains knowledge of regulatory and US Department of Transportation requirements and makes recommendations accordingly
  • Administers the universitywide fleet including the scheduled purchase of vehicles for replacement, motor vehicle accident reporting and all vehicle document renewals
  • Identifies and coordinates driver and dispatcher training
  • Assumes driver and dispatcher responsibilities, as needed
  • Plans, manages and oversees vehicle management and upkeep activities including securing and renewing registrations, vehicle inspections, verifying that required documentation is located in the vehicle, assistance with accident reporting, etc.
  • Manages the relationship and service agreements with external vendors and the local transit authority and oversees the process for student use of the services provided
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budget
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of as bachelor’s degree
  • Moderate amount of experience working in transportation, in a management/supervisory role or in other related work
  • Current/valid chauffer’s license or class A or B commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement
  • Ability and willingness to obtain class A or B commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement upon hire

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or greater in management or a related field of study

 

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 
  • Ability to communicate, read and write proficiently in English 
  • Availability to work weekends and serve on on-call rotations 
  • Excellent customer service skills 

 

Interview process requires satisfactory completion of DOT road test, review of driving records, review of previous employment records, and pre-employment drug test
