Summary

Plans, creates and implements internal and external campus communications and public relations initiatives

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Plans and implements crisis communications for both internal and external audiences, and creates media relations strategies and procedures to improve and maintain the university's and the campus' image and reputation
  • Serves as a representative of the university or campus in the community and with industry to build partnerships and to enhance the university's image
  • Develops and implements media outreach opportunities by creating and distributing press releases and responding to media requests, as well as coordinating television and radio appearances
  • Advises and/or consults with campus administration on decisions involving internal and external communications to provide effective and accurate communication strategies, messages, and goals for a variety of audiences
  • Develops and maintains communication mediums and marketing materials, such as, social media, web, print and electronic newsletters, in collaboration with university experts, as necessary, to effectively communicate initiatives to internal and external audiences
  • Executes and/or coordinates campus photography and video needs for various events
  • Serves as a contributing writer for internal and external campus and university communications
  • Prepares and monitors departmental budget to support appropriate allocation
  • Supervises and manages student employees, as necessary, to enhance their academic and professional development
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of an bachelor’s degree
  • Moderate amount of experience working in communications, public relations or in other related work

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field of study
