Summary

Prepares and delivers relevant course content using a variety of teaching methods and assessments that support student learning. Ensures that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives.

Courses taught may include hand-coded HTML and CSS, WordPress content management system, principles and practices of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design and Adobe Creative Suite (including Adobe XD).

Essential Job Functions

  • Teaches assigned course(s) by delivering appropriate course content to students, preparing course materials and lesson plans, and addressing student questions and/or concerns
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement and performance in accordance with university policies and procedures
  • Distributes to each student, in each course, a university approved syllabus that includes course objectives, texts, attendance policy and materials required for course and evaluation criteria
  • Communicates early with any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling
  • Refers students to appropriate university sources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career development, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master's degree in graphic/visual design or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution, or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Johnson & Wales University   
  • Experience working in design or in other related work
  • Experience working in and/or teaching variations of the following: web design, user experience design, user interface design, front-end web development, graphic design, typography, Adobe Creative Suite (including Adobe XD)
  • Proficient in digital art-related software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite  (including Adobe XD)
  • Strong knowledge of current industry standards for design, production, workflow and professional practice in the field
  • Ability to prepare lectures and demonstrations and effectively communicate relevant concepts to students
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to present course materials in an interesting and intelligent manner
  • Ability to teach classes during daytime and/or evening hours
  • Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to teach a variety of web design courses that promote industry best practices with an emphasis on culminating portfolio and industry standards

Qualified candidates must live or relocate within driving distance of the Providence Campus location upon hire.
