Summary


Advises students to create a positive learning experience by providing academic counsel, support and monitoring of progress to assist students in meeting their academic goals while maintaining student records in accordance with regulations

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides academic advising to students with choice in major, withdrawals, course drops, course selection, and other academic-related requests
  • Provides students with materials and referrals to access different forms of support services
  • Establishes and maintains ongoing contact with students through a variety of communication methods, including; telephone, email, virtual and in-person meetings, workshops and seminars, blogs, and social media sites
  • Answers customer questions in a professional and courteous manner providing accurate information and/or referring matter to the appropriate department staff members for resolution
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative and cooperative relationships
    with staff, faculty, and other internal constituencies to resolve student concerns related to enrollment in programs
  • Participates on university committees that address areas involving students’ academic progress and probation
  • Participates in a rotation schedule to staff the first point of service area (e.g. front desk) for visitors and callers
  • Uses analytics data to track student progress and outcomes in courses; provides proactive outreach to students who appear to be experiencing difficulties
  • Conducts ongoing reviews of assigned students' academic progress and records, monitoring retention of assigned students against the university's retention goals; employs outreach and communications accordingly
  • Assists with implementing, monitoring, and measuring retention strategies for students; identifies opportunities for improvement in providing students with a positive student experience
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in academic advising or counseling in higher education, telemarketing or other related experience
  • Excellent customer service and verbal/written communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, education or a related field of study
  • Knowledge of the following systems: Ellucian Banner, DegreeWorks and/or Starfish

Qualified candidates must live or relocate within a daily commuting distance of the Charlotte Campus location upon hire.
