Summary
Administers routine and emergency medical care to students through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and follow-up; appropriately documents patient visits
Essential Job Functions
- Utilizes clinical knowledge and experience to diagnose and treat students for illnesses and injuries, and refers cases for more advanced treatments outside the university as necessary
- Performs health assessments and gynecological exams, conducts medical tests, and documents patient data
- Orders and reviews necessary lab, x-ray and other diagnostic testing, and follows up with patients to discuss results
- Dispenses and prescribes medications according to medical standards and patient needs
- Processes and reviews medical records and documents clinical visits in the university's electronic medical record system, in accordance with department of health regulations and university policies
- Collaborates with the medical providers and staff nurses to provide high-quality patient care and to maintain office workflow
- Assists with campuswide initiatives and educational programs about health-related matters, such as smoking cessation, residential health education programming, and immunization and communicable disease control, to educate students and promote healthy practices on campus
- Serves on various health- and wellness-focused university committees
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a master's degree in nursing or a related field of study
- Moderate amount of experience in nursing or other related experience
- Registered nurse practitioner's license (R.N.P.) with prescriptive privileges in the state of Rhode Island
