Essential Job Functions
- Prepares and distributes work schedules, handles payroll activities, distributes work assignments, monitors employees progress and provides guidance as needed to department staff
- Manages and oversees routine horse care (e.g. vaccines, worming) as well as ailments, lameness, etc. and consults with the veterinarian and appropriate department management on proper treatment procedures, as necessary
- Maintains inventory of supplies for veterinary, barn and office and places orders as needed
- Organizes, directs and administers new student recruitment activities (e.g. tours Equine Affaire, Preview Days, etc.) and communicates with prospective students, parents and educators about the equine program
- Serves as a liaison between the equine program and the admissions office by conducting admission interviews with prospective equine students and answering questions for them throughout the admissions process
- Maintains knowledge of all appropriate regulations related to the equine center and implements changes as necessary
- Develops and coordinates content on social media sites representing the Equine Program
- Facilitates and oversees saddle fitting and equipment maintenance
- Assists with the proper care and treatment of university horses including direct care and feeding during non-business hours, as required
- Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
- Supervises and manages student employees, as necessary, to enhance their academic and professional development
- Prepares and monitors departmental budget
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree
- Experience working in horse care, stable management or in other related work
Please note: Qualified candidates must live or relocate within a daily commuting distance of the Johnson & Wales Equine Center located in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
