Summary

Patrols the campus and oversees the performance of security personnel assigned to operations and/or administrative services to promote the protection and safety of the university community

Essential Job Functions

  • Delegates tasks and monitors work of safety and security department staff to set performance expectations and oversee work completion as identified by the department policies and procedures
  • Trains the staff in emergency response procedures
  • Completes daily security reports and follow-up investigations, and approves subordinate paperwork
  • Plans for and coordinates outsourced security and organizes the paperwork accompanying the scheduling
  • Assists with the administrative functions including access control, records management, parking, crime prevention and community outreach as necessary
  • Patrols the campus and investigates reports or other concerns for safety and security to promote a safe academic environment
  • Implements a response strategy following an assessment of an urgent threat to the campus community
  • Guides compliance activities for the various responsibilities of a campus security authority as defined by federal and state regulations and university policy
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)  
  • Moderate amount of experience working in security, law enforcement or other related experience
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s license
  • Obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Obtain and maintain Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB), Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol (OCAT) (or equivalent), and Monadnock Expandable Baton certification
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Willingness to be subject to a comprehensive background investigation

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly assigned to outside weather conditions.   • Ability to withstand working in outside weather conditions
  • Ability to operate a patrol vehicle at any time under any weather conditions

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or completion of equivalent coursework
  • Moderate amount of management experience working in law enforcement, military and/or security
  • Emergency management experience and/or understanding of National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS) operations
  • Experience with and/or understanding of Title IX, Clery Act, and privacy regulations
  • Experience handling difficult or emergency situations in a calm manner, and prioritizing matters based on potential threat or safety level
  • Experience in conducting criminal or personnel policy investigations and investigative report writing
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Systems (RMS) systems

Qualified candidates must live or relocate within a daily commuting distance of the Charlotte Campus location upon hire.
