Director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

Summary

Serves as the strategic and operational leader of the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program and is responsible for administration of the program including; fiscal planning, curriculum development, personnel management, accreditation, budgeting, and assessment consistent with the mission of the university as well as the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the standards of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops and implements the entry level Doctorate in Physical Therapy program in alignment with regional and programmatic accreditation standards and the university’s mission and strategic plan, in collaboration with faculty, administration and other colleges within the university
  • Leads the DPT program’s strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives to determine teaching needs, and provides strategic leadership for faculty development, mentoring, and recruitment processes
  • Guides the integrity of the academic programs by providing innovative leadership in correlation with the program's faculty and staff in ongoing review and development of curriculum, program goals and objectives, program evaluation, and documents review processes accordingly
  • Leads and manages the Doctorate in Physical Therapy program by being knowledgeable about and responsible for program organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis, planning, development, pedagogy and accreditation
  • Works with college leadership to identify potential areas for revenue generation, resources required for the implementation of the strategic plan and makes recommendations
  • Develops and submits applications and other relevant documents and reports to CAPTE to facilitate candidacy, initial and continuing accreditation and maintains compliance with CAPTE standards across all elements of the program
  • Represents and serves as the primary liaison for the entry-level Doctorate in Physical Therapy program at internal university meetings and campuswide initiatives as well as medical, professional and other community organizations and events
  • Participates in the delivery of the DPT curriculum, building and sustaining collaborations with academic and professional partners within the university and the community, and maintains strong engagement with the APTA and the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT)
  • Teaches courses in the entry level Doctorate in Physical Therapy program as assigned
  • Prepares and monitors departmental budget
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or other appropriate accreditation as determined by JWU
  • Moderate amount of experience working in physical therapy education or other related experience 
  • Physical therapy license or licensure eligible in RI
