Senior Major Gifts Officer

Summary

Manages a portfolio of major donors and prospects with the goal of securing support that will reduce the financial barriers for students and provide the best resources possible to JWU including the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages prospect relationships and works collaboratively building, prospecting, cultivating, and soliciting within an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects
  • Assesses giving potential and creates and executes personalized strategies to expand the major gifts pipeline, deepen philanthropic relationships, and maximize gift opportunities
  • Identifies and qualifies new prospective major gifts donors and develops long term plans for their involvement with the university
  • Tracks all donor and prospect outreach and activity in the database, effectively following prospect management guidelines
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of the mission and priorities of the university
  • Collaborates with university representatives to develop funding priorities and  donor engagement and recognition opportunities in step with the university's strategic plan
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices in the field of fundraising and advances understanding through professional development
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in fundraising, major gifts or in other related work   

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Proven ability to solicit and secure major gifts
  • Track record of developing and implementing personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Proven ability to devise and execute donor prospecting plans to ensure robust pipeline of support
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications; strong planning, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to be an effective advocate for JWU, actively listen, work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment, and be proactive
  • Proficiency and experience using a donor database

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater communications, business or a related field of study
  • Five or more years of related experience (e.g., fundraising, research, sales, marketing, management, etc.), or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with Rhode Island’s philanthropic community
  • Experience with using Blackbaud Raiser's Edge
