Summary

Manages the daily operations of the academic laboratories including compliance with university, state and federal safety regulations and standards

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages the daily operations of the academic laboratories including compliance with university, state and federal safety regulations and standards
  • Manages daily operations by creating and implementing laboratory policies and procedures as wells as materials and services needed for the effective operation of the laboratory classes
  • Oversees and assists with the set-up and clean-up for laboratory exercises to prepare the laboratory for academic use, and maintains clean laboratory facilities and equipment according to guidelines
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment and identifies vendors to negotiate cost for materials as well as maintenance and repair of equipment in keeping with the budget
  • Conducts and supervises the training of laboratory faculty and staff in accordance with university, state and federal procedures and regulations
  • Establishes and implements proper procedures for handling and storing hazardous materials in compliance with university, state and federal safety regulations
  • Collaborates with department chair to determine proper scheduling of laboratory classes and facilities
  • Assists in preparing and monitoring departmental budget
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Supervises and manages student employees to enhance their academic and professional development
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an bachelor’s degree  
  • Moderate amount of experience working in a science laboratory in an academic or industry setting

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in chemistry, biochemistry or biology
  • Familiarity with common undergraduate laboratory equipment
  • Experience working in an academic setting or with operations of undergraduate science laboratories
