Faculty/Director of the Physical Therapy Doctorate Program

Provides strategic and operational leadership for the entry level Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) program and is responsible for the development, implementation, management and administration of the program, including planning, evaluation, outcomes assessment, budgeting, selection of faculty and staff, achievement and maintenance of accreditation and commitment to strategies for professional development, in alignment with the standards of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and within university policies and practices

The College of Health & Wellness at Johnson & Wales University is expanding to address the demands of the growing health and wellness industry. This is an exceptional opportunity to be a part of developing the Physical Therapy Doctorate program for the college. The program will focus on clinical skills, evidence-based practice, problem solving, and critical thinking to provide students with the knowledge and skills to be leaders in their fields and community. As with all programs in the College of Health & Wellness, the curriculum will emphasize science, team-based healthcare, determinants of health, humanistic health care, hands on learning, and inter/intra professional opportunities.


Essential Job Functions

  • Serves as a full-time faculty member with up to 100% release time for required duties, and executes the functions identified in that job classification
  • Develops and implements the entry level Doctorate in Physical Therapy program in alignment with regional and programmatic accreditation standards and the university’s mission and strategic plan, in collaboration with faculty, administration and other colleges within the university
  • Leads and manages the Doctorate in Physical Therapy program by being knowledgeable about and responsible for program organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis, planning, development, pedagogy and accreditation
  • Develops and submits applications and other relevant documents and reports to CAPTE to facilitate candidacy, initial and continuing accreditation and maintains compliance with CAPTE standards across all elements of the program
  • Represents the entry level Doctorate in Physical Therapy program at internal university meetings as assigned, and serves as the program's representative at medical, professional and other community organizations and events
  • Teaches courses in the entry level Doctorate in Physical Therapy program as assigned
  • Leads the program's faculty and staff in ongoing review and development of curriculum, program goals and objectives, program self-study and evaluation, and documents review processes accordingly
  • Assists with departmental budget
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Earned academic doctorate or enrollment in an academic doctoral program to be completed no later than May 2023
  • Moderate amount of experience in physical therapy education
  • Physical therapy license or licensure eligible in Rhode Island


Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in physical therapy education
