Delivers relevant course content online from master courses that use a variety of teaching methods and tools. Ensures that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives


Essential Job Functions

  • Delivers course content, learning activities and assessments using the university’s online learning platform, according to JWU course outlines and online course delivery standards
  • Measures student achievement of course objectives
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement and performance in accordance with university policies and procedures
  • Posts a syllabus that uses the university-approved syllabus template
  • Responds to requests for information and/or action from students and university administrators in a timely fashion (24 hours or less)
  • Communicates early with any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling
  • Refers students to appropriate university resources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career development, etc
  • Collaborates with instructional support team for online teaching orientation and course delivery preparation
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate, or a master's degree with ten or more years of experience working in the field of engineering. (Earned degree should be in engineering or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or or other appropriate accreditation as determined by JWU.)
  • Experience teaching online at the college level 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Blackboard
  • Experience with designing online courses


Compensation: $3,900 - $4,700/course dependent on course and degree of candidate

This part-time position offers benefits, which includes an employee assistance program and travel assistance program. Adjunct faculty may become eligible for paid sick time. Please note that the university reserves the right to amend, add to, or reduce the benefits as management determines from time to time is appropriate.

Adjunct faculty members are hired as needed on a per term basis. As such, not everyone in the applicant pool for this position will be contacted and/or selected to teach as an adjunct for the position.

Adjunct online faculty members deliver relevant and current curriculum online using a variety of teaching methods and tools available through Blackboard, ensuring that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives and successfully complete courses as outlined in course syllabi. Adjunct course teaching assignments are made term-by-term and are based on the scheduling needs of enrolled students.
