Financial Aid Systems Specialist

Oversees and acts as the administrator and functional owner for student financial services software applications, including performing quality checks to maintain compliance with federal student aid rules and regulations


Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees the daily activities of the financial aid systems, provides high level technical and analytical support for all phases of the financial aid software cycle
  • Researches new regulatory requirements and identifies methods for the university to meet compliance through the current system
  • Prepares the student financial services software systems for the start of each financial aid year and for special projects
  • Supports the student financial aid process including needs analysis, packaging, tracking and budgeting
  • Works collaboratively with Information Technology to maintain, troubleshoot, plan, and implement upgrades to the financial aid systems in compliance with annual updates to federal regulations and university practices
  • Creates formulas and processes for monitoring the university's student financial aid systems and builds and monitors the system rules and operations
  • Develops and maintains various reports and electronic mailing lists to meet department needs
  • Supports department workflow by providing procedural assistance, reviewing user needs on requests for system enhancements and develops proposed solutions, project plans, and timelines as necessary to enable a high level of service to students and the university community
  • Analyzes data collected by student financial services to assist university leadership in decision-making and to contribute to university research
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Moderate amount of experience working in financial aid operations or in other related work 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi task 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or a related field of study
  • Experience working with Banner, including technical financial aid concepts to manage Banner software
