Academic Fieldwork Coordinator/Faculty-OTD Program

Serves in a dual role as primary academic fieldwork coordinator and full-time core faculty member for the entry level Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program and maintains compliance with the standards of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and within university policies and practices.

Essential Job Functions

  • Core faculty with up to 100% release time for required duties, may teach up to 9 credits per year
  • Demonstrates specialized knowledge and maintains expertise in the theory, skills, and pedagogy of the applicable discipline or profession
  • Uses strategies and skills necessary to support student learning and prepares and delivers current and relevant course material in an understandable and motivating manner
  • Continually assesses course objectives and instructional methods to improve teaching and learning
  • Uses formative and summative assessments of student learning within assigned courses to inform instruction and improve student attainment of course objectives and program outcomes
  • Establishes a student and advisor relationship that provides guidance with regard to program choices and career possibilities and supports student educational growth through guided decision making
  • Supports the university's outcomes initiatives by working to refine and revise course assignments and evaluation tools and leading or participating in data analysis discussions to make program and course improvements
  • Facilitates development and revision of programs and courses, assuring alignment within the program description and outcomes, course objectives and content, as well as university curriculum standards
  • Attends commencement, convocation, faculty meetings, department meetings, committee meetings, professional development programs, and other university events, as applicable
  • Supports student enrollment and retention by participating in university events, advising student clubs and organizations, and assisting with admissions activities
  • Adheres to and fulfills the responsibilities of all faculty members as outlined in the faculty manual
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with new and existing fieldwork and community agencies for experiential sites consistent with the university and program mission
  • Acts as primary liaison and advisor for OTD students at the university and fieldwork sites
  • Develops, maintains and schedules clinical rotations including Level I and Level II practicum fieldwork experience
  • Maintains program compliance with standards set for in the ACOTE fieldwork education requirements
  • Collaborates with the program director, faculty and staff to provide successful experiential education outcomes
  • Facilitates student fieldwork placement and coordinates program assessments throughout the experience
  • Visits fieldwork sites periodically to assure continued efficacy of the placement
  • Manages and updates fieldwork site contracts, agreements and records
  • Assists with departmental budget
  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
  • Supervises and manages student employees, as necessary, to enhance their academic and professional development
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in occupational therapy or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or other appropriate accreditation as determined by JWU (Must have an undergraduate or master's degree in occupational therapy if earned doctorate is in a related field of study.)
  • Two or more years of practice experience as an occupational therapist
  • Experience working as a fieldwork educator 
  • Valid NBCOT certification
  • Active RI occupational therapy license or eligibility to obtain such licensure upon hire


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating fieldwork from a clinical setting or academic setting
  • Experience teaching in higher education
