Faculty/Director of the Master of Science Counseling Programs

Summary

Serves in a dual role as program director and full-time core faculty member for the Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Counseling programs. Provides strategic and operational leadership and is responsible for the management and administration of the program, including planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty and staff, maintenance of accreditation and commitment to strategies for professional development, in alignment with the standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) and within university policies and practices.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Serves as a full-time faculty member and executes the functions identified in that job classification
  • Directs the MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Counseling programs in alignment with regional and programmatic accreditation standards and the university’s mission and strategic plan, in collaboration with faculty, administration and other colleges within the university
  • Recruits, recommends, hires, supervises, assesses and develops qualified faculty to support the programs
  • Leads the program's faculty and staff in ongoing review and development of curriculum, program goals and objectives, program self-study and evaluation, and documents review processes accordingly
  • Develops and submits applications and other relevant documents and reports to CACREP to facilitate accreditation and maintains continued compliance with CACREP standards across all elements of the program
  • Oversees the coordination and administration of the counseling degree programs, including addressing questions or inquiries about such programs
  • Leads and manages the counseling program by being knowledgeable about and responsible for program organization, administration, fiscal management, continuous review and analysis, planning, development and accreditation
  • Identifies with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations
  • Maintains certifications and/or licenses related to counseling specialty area
  • Shows sustained evidence of professional development, professional service and advocacy in counseling
  • Provides evidence of research and scholarly activity in counseling commensurate with the faculty role
  • Collaborates with admissions in the recruitment of students into the counseling degree programs
  • Represents the MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Counseling programs at internal university meetings as assigned, and serves as the program's representative at medical, professional and other community organizations and events
  • Teaches courses in the MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Addiction Counseling programs as assigned
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of department budget
  • Oversees faculty and adjunct functions pertaining to counseling program activities, such as clinical work, curriculum development, and outcomes data collection and use
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in counselor education or related field of study from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or other appropriate accreditation as determined by JWU (preferably from a CACREP accredited program)
  • Moderate amount of experience working in counseling, higher education administration, faculty or in other related work
  • Valid counseling license in Rhode Island or ability to obtain such licensure upon hire
  • Successful candidates must be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CACREP program leadership experience
