Summary

 

Serves in a dual role as program director and core faculty member for the post professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program.  Provides strategic and operational leadership and is responsible for the management and administration of the program, including planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty and staff, maintenance of accreditation and commitment to strategies for professional development

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Demonstrates specialized knowledge and maintains expertise in the theory, skills, and pedagogy of the applicable discipline or profession
  • Uses strategies and skills necessary to support student learning and prepares and delivers current and relevant course material in an understandable and motivating manner

  • Continually assesses course objectives and instructional methods to improve teaching and learning

  • Uses formative and summative assessments of student learning within assigned courses to inform instruction and improve student attainment of course objectives and program outcomes

  • Establishes a student and advisor relationship that provides guidance with regard to program choices and career possibilities and supports student educational growth through guided decision making

  • Supports the university's outcomes initiatives by working to refine and revise course assignments and evaluation tools and leading or participating in data analysis discussions to make program and course improvements

  • Facilitates development and revision of programs and courses, assuring alignment within the program description and outcomes, course objectives and content, as well as university curriculum standards

  • Attends commencement, convocation, faculty meetings, department meetings, committee meetings, professional development programs, and other university events, as applicable

  • Supports student enrollment and retention by participating in university events, advising student clubs and organizations, and assisting with admissions activities

  • Adheres to and fulfills the responsibilities of all faculty members as outlined in the faculty manual

  • Develops and implements, in collaboration with others a post professional education program for occupational therapists that meets current regional and programmatic accreditation standards and is consistent with the mission of the university

  • Recruits, recommends, hires, supervises, assesses and develops qualified full- and part-time faculty to support the post professional program

  • Plans and executes local marketing activities to increase awareness of the post professional program to contribute to meeting the enrollment goals

  • Leads the program's faculty and staff in ongoing curriculum review and development, review of program goals and objectives, program self-study and evaluation and certifies that these activities are sustained and properly documented

  • Oversees the development and application of admissions policies and process, including assuring appropriate faculty involvement in the selection of candidates for admission, and participates in student recruitment activities

  • Collaborates with university registrar to monitor degree related activities

  • Mentors post professional students throughout their doctoral project

  • Keeps abreast of changes in field to track trends and make recommendations for changes or updates to the department functions

  • Prepares and monitors departmental budget

  • Supervises and develops the department staff, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures

  • Supervises and manages student employees, as necessary, to enhance their academic and professional development

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a doctorate degree in occupational therapy or a related field of study from a regionally accredited institution (An entry level, professional degree in occupational therapy and earned doctorate degree in a related field of study is acceptable.)
  • Experience working in clinical practice, administrative, online post professional teaching or in other related work
  • NBCOT certification
  • Active RI Occupational Therapy license or ability to obtain such license upon hire
