Essential Job Functions
- Assists with the creation and delivery of the strategic plan for the College of Arts & Sciences, as well as with other academic initiatives that support the university’s mission, vision, and strategic plan
- Coordinates committee and department initiatives, course schedules, and faculty teaching and service assignments campuswide and across modalities, including handling alternative work assignments when necessary
- Supports faculty and staff recruitment and retention, including the hiring and evaluation of full-time faculty and adjunct instructors
- Works with other members of the college to finalize staffing plans
- Oversees the faculty mentoring program within the college
- Oversees the student experience within the undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Arts & Sciences to promote student success, retention and experiences; including student advising and experiential education
- Advances student enrichment opportunities in the College of Arts & Sciences (e.g., study abroad, service learning, internships, etc.)
- Oversees the programs within the College of Arts & Sciences to monitor program quality and maintain compliance with internal academic policies and the accrediting bodies of the university and the college
- Leads the implementation and use of assessment procedures that create data to drive decision-making processes for the college, including the outcomes assessment for the academic degrees of the college and the university’s general education curriculum
- Oversees and manages curriculum development and instruction for academic degrees in the college, as well as the university’s general education curriculum, and serves as a liaison to other colleges in curricular matters, to maintain academic integrity and rigor
- Supports the Dean in oversight of the use of office and laboratory space and equipment as well as coordinating repair and replacement of facilities and equipment, as needed
- Assists the Dean with internal and external universitywide events, as needed, including events within admissions, alumni relations, advancement and development
- Represents the College of Arts & Sciences on various committees and councils, at assigned university functions, and at designated off-campus events
- Assists with oversight of the Dean’s office operations for the College of Arts & Sciences
- Supervises the college’s social media platforms
- Processes paperwork on behalf of college leadership as well as reviews correspondence, drafts of reports and plans
- Promotes diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the college including workforce composition, programming and other college initiatives
- Supports, mentors and collaborates with faculty with teaching, research, and service roles
- Assists in the preparation and monitoring of department budget
- Supervises and develops department employees, facilitating professional opportunities to improve individual capability and managing performance against job accountabilities, department goals and established university, campus and department policies and procedures
- Supervises and manages student employees, as necessary, to enhance their academic and professional development
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or other appropriate accreditation as determined by JWU
- Moderate amount of experience working in faculty or academic administration or other related experience
